A constructed wetland to improve the effluent quality from an oxidation ditch

Disinfection at HRT=2 days
A large reduction in faecal coliforms was observed in the presettling basin (HRT of 1.4 days) and the ditches (HRT of 0.8 days). The amount of faecal coliforms decreased from around 800/ml to on average 10/ml at the end of the ditches in summer. Disinfection was not consistently high in winter at this short HRT. Removal of faecal coliforms was larger in the front than in the rear ditch sections.
